consulting

I have up to five years experience providing professional editing and proofreading services. I’ve worked as the Head of Editorial for an award-winning media platform, the managing editor for an international literary journal, and proofreader for top publishing houses. I have experience with developmental, copy, line-editing as well as proofreading. Whether it’s your manuscript, article, professional documents, thesis, or website, I will work with you to strengthen your writing while maintaining your authentic writer voice. Each service you choose will give you two versions of your document: an edited clean version with all of the changes applied and a corrected version with track changes and comments.

what i offer

proofreading

Proofreading is usually the final stage, after an editor has worked on your document. It mainly focuses on grammatical errors, punctuation, tense, spelling, sentence structure, references and citations. The aim is to make your work easier to read and understand, more accurate and more polished.

1- to -1

Consulting can look like an ongoing working relationship with me, or a pre-booked set number of hours, which you can use how you’d like. Whether it’s reading your manuscript, fleshing out an idea, brainstorming your plot and character arc, focusing on a few scenes, re-reading your revisions, or preparing your submissions package.

editing

Editing includes copy and line-editing, and this focuses on everything from narrative arc, tense, clarity, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, rhythm, syntax, word choice. It also includes suggestions for rephrasing and rewriting.

getting agent - ready

If you’ve worked tirelessly at editing and revising your manuscript and are ready for the next stage of approaching agents, this one’s for you!

I will work with you to perfect your query letter, 1-page synopsis and first 3 chapters (or up to 10,000 words) of your novel. I will guide you through shortlisting the right agents for you, the best format for querying and provide a template of questions to ask agents who express an interest in representing you.

“As the saying goes: to write is holy, to edit is divine. There’s a kind of blessing given to Suad as she works—not only taking the red pen through what needs to be fixed, but holding your hand along the way. She’s a true teacher as well as an editor, empowering her writers with the tools they need to create the works that will change the world. Her feedback is not only warm, but comes in different forms: questions that help you bring an idea to life, encouragement about complex construction, and help for bringing an idea to life.”. She’s an absolute pleasure to work with.

– Hannah alkadi

“She showed great dedication to her work, turning all tasks around well in advance of her deadlines, and it was great to see how her skills progressed throughout the scheme and how well she took feedback. Suad worked well with digital mark-ups and showed attention to detail and thoughtfulness about language; I look forward to working with her again.”
